BOOKS

Traveling and reading are two things I love to do in my spare time. With the first I can travel with the power of imagination while others go to see what I am dreamed. I have read since I was a child. My father took me to the library to choose my own books and made the card once I got to attend assiduously that library. The staff was been always the same one that saw me grow up and when I come back they are pleased to see me. I highly recommend attending the libraries, because they can really live the books' world. To tell the truth I prefer the library to the book shops. I prefere to buy the book when I really like it, that happen after you reading it. During University's time I tore dozens of books a year. I finished studying the engineering book and started with the fantasy books. My mother asked me and continue to asks if I'm not yet sick of it, but believe me a passion like this can only grow and certainly not dying. Books like travelling opens the mind. For this reason I say: read, read, read.
There are different kinds of books that appeal to me, the greater are horror novels, science fiction, adventure. As a child I jumped on our literary masterpieces, now that I'm great I love about those that are based on history. I remember when in high school were the authors' lessons (something boring) I was managing the interrogation because he had already read books of this or that author. Italian schools should work differt with the litterature. Should ask students to buy a book chosen from a list and then talk about it. So you will remember some of Verga or Wilde, reading and love their masterpieces and certainly not knowing when they passed away. Reading a Carducci's poem in class or do performances Verdi's masterpieces you learn what is art and Italian culture.
All books are worth reading. If someone gives you a book, read it. Each book has a lesson in itself . I remember many emphasized phrases from books read and reported in my diary. you can read again a book and sometimes feel the emotion that the book has brought me. When you read again a book you can feel has a different meaning and a different taste. I am glad I read Hamlet, Othello, King Lear, the De Profundis etc etc. and whenever I find the same taste. I must admit that only great works, really beautiful book, worth to be read again.
For those who are starting to read I adivice to start with the italian's litterature masterpieces and not. Thus read the beautiful masterpieces and at the same time you also have a smattering of general culture. Surely if in a speech talking about Wilde or Verga at least you know of what you are talking about. If you have children one more reason of blaming the child because that author has not been studied at least you have a clear conscience because you have read it!
Oscar Wilde: The Picture of Dorian Gray, De Profundis, The Selfish Giant, The Happy Prince, The Importance of Being Earnest etc. Wilde must be read. There are stories that can be read by child and old all of them is nice to read again.
Giovanni Verga: Reluctantly, Mastro Don Gesualdo, History of a Blackcap, Rosso Malpelo, the wolf, The stuff etc. Verga is for persone who like me born in Sicily. He Tell me a little of our territory. On some of these stories there are made famous films.
Joseph Pirandello: One, no one hundred thousand, the outcast, The Late Mattia Pascal, Cosi 'e' (if you like), Liol, The jar, etc. The cap and bells. Pirandello, who was also a Sicilian, is one of the most important authors of Italian literature. It 's been to the theater stories and novels. Read it is a pleasure.
William Shakespeare: Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Hamlet, Othello, King Lear, The Taming of the Shrew, The Merchant of Venice, etc.. There are no words to describe the art of this author. Read it!
There are many others that should be mentioned here as Sciascia, Carducci, Svevo etc. but it would take volumes of website to deal with the subject. There are already italiana litterary brick where is mention all the hystory. I would like instead focus on the books that I read recently and which are worthy of note even for a dispassionate advice.
